DESCRIPTION:
The main construction work concerned with the substitution of obsolete elements and the technical installations to create a comfortable climate. Inside, each new partition is inserted in the existing structural module. Each wall has an opening that connect the rooms. All the walls have the same thickness, all the openings the same dimensions. The identity of the architectural elements enhances the atmosphere of the rooms, due to the quality of natural light and the colour used as materiality.

WHAT - Program


TOTAL REPLACEMENT / DISCONTINUITY: The new functional program has completely replaced the original one.

DESCRIPTION:
The intervention consists in the conversion of an existing garage in a nursery school for twenty-five children. The image of the building has been changed.

WHO - Financing


TOTAL REPLACEMENT / DISCONTINUITY: Financing made entirely by an investor other than property.

DESCRIPTION:
The project was financed by the cooperative running the Nursery School.

DESCRIPTION:
The kindergarten is located on the ground floor and overlooking a garden, offering ideal conditions from an educational point of view : outdoor activities, natural light from three sides, cross ventilation.

DESCRIPTION:
The nursery school takes profit from the adaptable and useful spaces of the existing garage.

HOW - Design Strategy STRUCTURE


TOTAL CONSERVATION / CONTINUITY: The original supporting structure is fully preserved and there are no new structures.

DESCRIPTION:
The intervention has preserved the building’s structure, taking profit from the typical industrial architecture full-void ratio. Some interventions, rigorously carried out, concerned the substitution of obsolete elements and the installations to create a comfortable climate.

HOW - Design Strategy MATERIAL


BALANCE BETWEEN CONSERVATION AND REPLACEMENT: The materials chosen for the new intervention balance similarities and differences with the existing ones.
